The establishment of the college
The College of Economic and Commercial Sciences, as well as Management Sciences, originated in the form of the Institute of Economic Sciences, established by Executive Decree No. 89/140 dated August 1, 1989, under the framework of creating the University of Setif. It later evolved into a college through Executive Decree 04-251 dated December 2, 1998. Currently, the College of Economic and Commercial Sciences and Management Sciences comprises a common core and four departments: Business Sciences, Economic Sciences, Management Sciences, and Finance and Accounting, according to Ministerial Decision No. 2005 dated 2016, complementing Decision No. 401 dated October 31, 2012.
The primary tasks of the college in higher education include:
- Training essential cadres for the economic, social, and cultural development of the country.
- Providing students with research methodologies and advancing training through research and scholarly endeavors.
- Contributing to the production, dissemination, and development of scientific knowledge.
The primary tasks of the college in scientific research and technological development include:
- Contributing to the national effort in scientific research and technological development.
- Enhancing and disseminating national culture.
- Participating in supporting national scientific capabilities.
- Valorizing research results and publishing scientific and technical information.
- Engaging within the international scientific and cultural community to exchange and enrich knowledge.
The organizational structure of the college consists of the College Dean's office, Deputy Deans, departments, the General Secretariat, various other services, and the college library. This structure is based on the joint ministerial decision dated August 24, 2004, outlining the administrative organization of the university, college, institute, and the common services.
The main responsibilities of the General Secretariat of the college include:
- Preparing a plan for managing human resources for the college and ensuring its implementation.
- Managing the professional development of college staff.
- Administering archives, documenting the college, and preserving records.
- Preparing the college budget and ensuring its execution.
- Promoting scientific, cultural, and sports activities for students.
- Managing movable and immovable assets of the college and overseeing their maintenance.
- Ensuring the implementation of the college's internal security plan.
